Έκθεση: Maria do Céu Neves Patrão written. - A key element in the reform of fisheries policy is co-involvement of producers in the principles promoted by the European Community. European Union can not expect natural resize, driven by economic realities, the fishing fleets in Europe. Their overcapacity in almost 8 years of the World Summit on Sustainable Development, and continued decline of fish stocks are more reason for a substantial reform of the Common Fisheries Policy. This should not however forget that there are entire communities in coastal regions of European Union member states whose existence revolves around fishing. As mentioned in the report on fisheries reform, this activity is part of cultural heritage and traditions that nobody wants to lost. A rethinking of the common fisheries policy in the interest of each Member State so that the main objective assumed Summit in 2012 - to reach the maximum sustainable yield of fish stocks by 2015 - can be achieved and the European Community should not be forced to import half of its total fish from other markets.
